Overview and Highlights of Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek – 5 Days

The Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek is a 5 day trekking journey that takes you to Annapurna Base Camp at an elevation of 4,130 meters. This trek is for those who have less time and follows an alternative route to visit the Annapurna Sanctuary without missing the major attractions of the area. It is a good alternative for people who prefer to explore the mountains, villages and trekking culture of the Annapurna region but don’t have enough time to commit to a longer trek.

The trip starts from Pokhara and then continues to Samrung first and then to Jhinu Danda and then Chhomrong. Chhomrong is a big Gurung village and a vital pass to Annapurna Base Camp. The trail follows the valley of the Modi Khola, passing through the villages of Bamboo, Dovan and Himalaya, gradually descending deeper into the Annapurna Conservation Area. On the way, trekrs can enjoy the forest paths, suspension bridges, stone stairs, waterfalls and old teahouse villages that have been providing trekking services in the region for many years.

As the trail gains elevation, the landscape changes noticeably. The forests gradually give way to more open terrain before the mountain views begin to open up. The trail ascends to Machhapuchhre Base Camp from where the surrounding peaks take over the sky line before reaching Annapurna Base Camp. The 5 Days Annapurna Base Camp Trek provides close views of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, Gangapurna, and several other peaks that form the Annapurna Sanctuary.

For Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek, accommodation will be available in the local teahouses of the mountain communities on the trek route. These teahouses offer basic but comfortable facilities, along with freshly prepared meals each day. Trip Information

Weather and Best Season

Visiting the Annapurna region is possible all year round, though the best time to go trekking is spring or autumn. Spring (March-May) offers mild weather and rhododendron forests in lower parts of trail. It’s a popular time to trek in the mountains because of the possibility of clear mornings.

Another good time of the year is September to November when the weather is warm and clear. Once the monsoon season is over, the trails are typically dry and walking is easy. Autumn is one of the most popular seasons for trekking because of stable weather, clear skies and excellent mountain visibility.

The winter season is colder, particularly at higher altitudes like Annapurna Base Camp, and there is the possibility of rain and poor visibility during the monsoon season. The spring and autumn seasons are typically the best times to trek to Annapurna Base Camp from Pokhara.
